It is concluded that a frequently used method, based on counting chloroplast profiles in thin physical sections of the leaf is biased, resulting in a highly significant underestimation of the number of chloroplasts per cell. On the other hand, a stereological method of disector yields theoretically unbiased results Workplace Institute of Physiology Contact Lucie Trajhanová, lucie.trajhanova@fgu.cas.cz, Tel.: 241 062 400 Year of Publishing 2012
