    AnnotationTwo methods for chloroplast number estimation in mesophyll cells are compared and discussed. It is concluded that a frequently used method, based on counting chloroplast profiles in thin physical sections of the leaf is biased, resulting in a highly significant underestimation of the number of chloroplasts per cell. On the other hand, a stereological method of disector yields theoretically unbiased results
