AnnotationA new ternary compound, U(9)Fe(7)Ge(24), prep. by arc-melting and heating. X-ray diffraction, magnetization, specific heat and electrical transport measurements.Tetragonal structure, 14/mmm. 3 U, 8 Ge , and 3 Fe sites, stacks of infinite chains along the a and b axis. Strong interactions U and Ge can be predicted. Magnetic and specific heat measurements do’nt show any magnetic transition. Curie Weiss behaviour with a negative paramagnetic Curie temp. theta p = -94 K and reduced effective mag. moment of mu(eff) = 2.13 mu(B) / U indicate the compound is rather far from onset of magnetism, presumably due to a strong hybridisation of the 5f and ligand states. Electrical transport shows a metallic behaviour.
