AnnotationThe Porto-Tomar shear zone in Ossa Morena, WPortugal contain several tectonostratigraphic units developed as highly deformed low-grade metasediments. The Albergaria-a-Velha unit yielded palynomorphs indicating the early Frasnian to the Serpukhovian age and pointing together with lithostratigraphic evidence to an origin in a distal marine environment. Turbiditic and basinal marine sedimentation prevailed. Detrital framework data indicated stable cratonic sediment source area composed of low grade metamorphic rocks. Palynofacies analysis and lithostratigraphical data show a gradual increase of terrestrial output. Organic petrology and geochemical data indicate that the Albergaria- a- Velha unit can be placed within the dry gas window in terms of hydrocarbon generation ranges.
