The strong absorption band at 1620 cm–1 in the FT-IR spectrum and a singlet signal at 8.32 ppm in the 1H NMR spectrum of (1) clearly proves the presence of the C=N (azomethine) group. Single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that the title compound adopts an E configuration with respect to the C=N bond.
