It accounts for heterogeneous photodegradation that has negative impact on material properties of polymers. The degradation can be minimized by application of stabilizers, hindered amine stabilizers (HAS) in particular. We applied modern physical techniques that are able to bring unique information on the heterogeneity of the degradation process. Development of concentration profiles of nitroxides inside polymer plaques and concentrations of oxidation products on the surfaces and inside the plaques were determined by ESRI and by ATR FTIR, respectively. Diffuse optical transmission of the plaques was determined using spectrophotometer equipped with an integration sphere. Data determined in four commodity carbon chain polymers PP, PE, PS and Topas® stabilized with secondary HAS Tinuvin® 770 and with Tinuvin® NOR 123 are compared.
