| Annotation | Studie se zabývá nejrozsáhlejším a zároveň posledním dokončeným románem českého prozaika Ladislava Fukse (1923-1994) Vévodkyně a kuchařka (1983). Interpretace se snaží obsáhnout univerzum předkládaného fikčního světa a zároveň pojmenovat konstanty autorské poetiky, jež je v tomto románu završujícím Fuksovu dvacetiletou literární tvorbu obsažena v koncentrované podobě. V prvé řadě se badatel zamýšlí nad autorovou motivací pro výběr historické látky, která je v kontextu spisovatelova díla téměř ojedinělá. Dále se zabývá motivickou výstavbou románu, autorovými mystifikačními postupy a hrou se čtenářem, jež román přibližuje postmoderní literatuře. Středem zájmu studie je ústřední postava vévodkyně Sofie, jež v sobě zahrnuje jakousi tresť atmosféry rakousko-uherské monarchie konce 19. století. S postavou vévodkyně souvisí rovněž filozoficky zvažované téma románu, kterým je pomíjivost lidského života.

| Description in English | This essay is concerned with the largest and last finished work by the Czech novelist Ladislav Fuks (1923-1994), Vévodkyně a kuchařka (The Duchess and the Cook, 1983). The author seeks to interpret the universe of the presented fictious world and to name the constant features of Fuks's style that appear in the novel, which is the culmination of Fuks's twenty-year literary career, in a concentrated form. First of all, the essay considers Fuks's motivation in selecting this historical material, which is almost unique in his works. It then considers the structure of the motifs in the novel, Fuks's tricster approch and his playing with the reader, which makes this novel much like a work of postmodern literature. The author of the study focuses at the character of Duchess Sophia, which contains the essence of the atmosphere of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in the late 19th century, and parallely describes the philosophically considered topic of the novel, the transience of human life.
