AnnotationThe new lactic acid derivatives with azo group in their molecular core have been synthesized and mesomorphic properties established. Compounds with short aliphatic non-chiral chain exhibited the SmA* and the ferroelectric (FE) SmC* phase. The monotropic antiferroelectric (AF) phase has been found in the homologues with longer terminal chain. Physical properties were studied and spontaneous polarization and tilt angle temperature dependences established.
