AnnotationThe biochemical research into blood has been pursued at the Prague university institutes of medical chemistry since the beginnings of the 19th century. The paper describes research of two personalities J. Janský (1873-1921) and F. Haurowitz (1896-1987) which also had its political connotations. Janský’s reseach of the blood groups was abused by the communist propaganda in the 1950s. F. Haurowitz belongs among the Czechoslovak scholars who had to escape in exile from the Nazis.
