AnnotationAnotace A.: The aim of the study was to analyze the effect of age, gender, smoking, vitamin intake, genetic polymorphism in genes related to the metabolic activation of PAHs and their detoxification and oxidative damage to DNA, lipids and protein on the frequency of micronuclei (MN). The study group consisted of 175 children aged 6-15 years (81 with asthma, 94 healthy controls; 15 children were active smokers) from Ostrava, Czech Republic. The frequency of MN/1000 BNC, measured by automated image analysis, indicated a significant risk of DNA damage for smoking children with asthma in comparison with smoking control children.
