    Annotation1-(S)-[3-Hydroxy-2-(phosphonomethoxy)propyl]-5-azacytosine (HPMP-5-azaC), its cyclic form and a series of ester prodrugs were prepared as a new type of antiviral agents active against all species of DNA viruses in vitro and in vivo. HPMP-5-azaC showed a 2- to 16-fold higher antiviral selectivity index compared to cidofovir.
