AnnotationIn the present work a brief overview of microstructured devices, advantages and disadvantages as well as principles of the multiscale design approach are presented. They comprise mainly uniform current density distribution, local control of the process parameters, high single pass conversion and reduced concentration of the supporting electrolyte needed to perform the reaction. The two types of the bipolar cells optimised to perform desired reaction are reported. The results are compared with the published data. An analysis was performed to compare performance figures of both existing and the novel technology based on the microstructured device.
