AnnotationBonded interface technique represents a novel approach to study microstructural changes in thermal spray coatings during failure process and as such may complement classical fractographic analysis especially when combined with metallography, free-surface observation, surface profilometry, strain mapping or numerical simulations. The developed method may be used for different types of loading (e.g., indentation, wear, etc.). In this study, bonded interface technique was used to characterize differences in failure process of ceramic and metallic plasma spray coatings.
