AnnotationThe plant hormone auxin regulates many important aspects of plant development from the early embryogenesis to the seed production. On genomic and non-genomic levels, finely tuned auxin gradients form an important morphoregulatory trigger. In planta, auxin is transported to long distances using symplastic transport in the phloem and it is also a subject to cell-to-cell transport, being able to move across the plasma membrane (PM) by diffusion and/or utilizing several types of auxin transporters. This chapter summarizes recent knowledge on the types of auxin transporters, their functional characterization, and involvement in developmental processes in plants.
