The development of neurogenic pulmonary edema has been shown to be preventable by prior ganglionic blockade by pentolinium, which indicates the crucial role of sympathetic hyperactivation in neurogenic pulmonary edema development, or by the previous administration of atropine, which abolishes the baroreflex-induced bradycardia.
