AnnotationThis letter stresses the problem of neurogenic pulmonary edema, which develops on the basis of a previous massive blood pressure elevation accompanied by baroreflex-induced bradycardia. The development of neurogenic pulmonary edema has been shown to be preventable by prior ganglionic blockade by pentolinium, which indicates the crucial role of sympathetic hyperactivation in neurogenic pulmonary edema development, or by the previous administration of atropine, which abolishes the baroreflex-induced bradycardia.
