AnnotationUsing the Hinode spectro-polarimetric observations of Fe I 630 nm lines and their inversions, we found photospheric downflows in the sunspot penumbra that have the same magnetic polarity as the sunspot umbra. The Stokes profiles seen in the patches are characterized as humps or enhancements on the red wing of the Stokes V profiles. Probably owing to the small size, such downflow patches have not been previously reported in penumbrae. These downflows are not related to the Evershed flow. They are mostly found inside the bright penumbral filaments and in the disk-center side penumbra in our data. We also found that some of the downflow patches are temporally and spatially coincident with chromospheric brightenings in the Ca II H images.
