AnnotationExtensive investigation of planktonic, periphytic, metaphytic and benthic cyanobacteria was performed in 1986–2009 at South Moravian localities. The occurrence and ecology of eight selected cyanobacterial morphospecies were studied in detail: Rhabdogloea smithii, Merismopedia convoluta, Merismopedia sp., Spirulina major, S. meneghiniana, S. nordstedtii, Arthrospira jenneri, non-planktonic morphospecies of Anabaena, and Anabaenopsis nadsonii. This research revealed A. nadsonii as a species new for the Czech Republic. Further, the environmental preferences of the species studied were revised and discussed with data from the literature. S. meneghiniana (Kutnar, Pastvisko – Nová Okrouhlá Pool, Lednické fishponds – Prostřední Pond) have been found to display a markedly wider range of conductivity tolerances than had been previously reported. All samples collected in the course of the work have been deposited in the collection of Moravian Museum, Brno and are available for further studies.
