Description in English Recent record of a critically endangered plant species Polycnemum arvense is reported from the surroundings of the town of Náměšť nad Oslavou. It is one of few recent sites of the species in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The site has a peculiar management regime, being a decorative rock garden beneath a wayside cross in an agricultural landscape. The recorded population consists of several dozen individuals. The habitat requirements of the species are being discussed. It is concluded that although Polycnemum arvense is considered an alien species of archaeophytic origin in the Czech Republic, it may be native as well. The treeless sites with sparsely vegetated blown sand or with rocky outcrops surrounded by thin accumulations of sandy weathered material might have been particularly suitable for its survival during the Holocene.
