AnnotationIn this work, we studied the hippocampal 5-HT innervation during the progression of Alzheimer’s disease in a triple transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease; which mimics the spatio-temporal and cognitive evolution of the disease. We observed a biphasic increase in serotonin transporter fibres in transgenic animals at 3 months and at 18 months of age; suggesting that this modifications imply a 5-HT sprouting, which may account for imbalanced serotonergic neurotransmission associated with Alzheimer’s disease cognitive impairment.
