We observed a biphasic increase in serotonin transporter fibres in transgenic animals at 3 months and at 18 months of age; suggesting that this modifications imply a 5-HT sprouting, which may account for imbalanced serotonergic neurotransmission associated with Alzheimer’s disease cognitive impairment.
