AnnotationThis paper presents a short history of common uses and traditional management in Hodonínská Dúbrava, a large ancient wood in southern Moravia. Until the late 18th century the Wood had extensive common uses and was managed as wood-pasture. After this time these uses and rights gradually disappeared. This process formed part of a general European trend, in which modern forestry was born through the ideology of the Enlightenment and economic liberalism.
