    AnnotationSupernatant of in vitro cultures of the probiotic Escherichia coli strain Nissle 1917 (EcN) contains relatively high amounts of lipopolysacchride (LPS). LPS has been found to be largely responsible for immunostimulatory effects of EcN including biosynthesis of nitric oxide and cytokines.
