AnnotationRaman, attenuated total reflectance (ATR) FTIR spectroscopy, and DFT calculations were applied to aqueous solutions of block copolymers Pluronic PE6200, PE6400 and F68. Micellization of Pluronics is reflected in the hydroxyl stretching region of the spectra obtained. Raman spectra exhibit differences between hydration of each Pluronic even below the critical micellization temperature (CMT). ATR FTIR spectra show that models of mixed states of water with different hydrogen bonding environments provide appropriate descriptions of bound water below and above the CMT. Above the CMT, differences in microstructure of aggregates formed by each copolymer are detected. Nanoscale phenomena of hydration are thus related to the mesoscale phenomenon of micellization.
