AnnotationRecent advances in fish transgenesis allow generation of transgenic animals at high numbers and efficiency of germ-line transmission. To facilitate the procedure, a suitable co-injection marker may be very helpful for preselection of transgenic embryos. For this purpose, a lens-specific marker appears to be a suitable candidate since the lens is a well defined tissue positioned at the periphery and is easily accessible for examination of reporter gene expression. Here, we constructed reporter vectors based on mouse gamma-F crystallin (mF-Cry) promoter driving heterologous expression of the reporter gene at a high level and very specifically to the lens allowing an easy sorting of transgenics.
