AnnotationLong-period gratings (LPGs) in single-mode opt. fibers are sensitive to temperature, bending and index of refraction. We report sensing characteristics of LPGs written with a CO2 laser in a single-mode fiber with parabolic-index cladding. for an LPG with a period of 214 m, attenuation band 1550 nm. The responses were investigated for λ 1.33, 1.46 and 1.50. The LPG´s sensitivity to temp. was comparable to that of LPGs in conventional fibers, its sensitivities both to bending and external λ are very low.
