AnnotationThe present study demonstrates a parallel approach to the synthesis, characterization, and discussion of PPy and PANI. Cerium(IV) sulfate, was used at various mole ratios with respect to monomers. The stoichiometric mole ratio of oxidant-to-monomer, 2.5, is recommended for the most efficient use of reactants. The effect of the oxidant-to-monomer mole ratio on the conductivity was marginal. The degree of protonation is found to be about one sulfuric acid molecule providing two protons per eight pyrrole units. In the case of PANI, both sulfate and hydrogen sulfate counter-ions are present in the constitution of the PANI salt at the expected stoichiometry.
