| Annotation | Výbor na obranu nespravedlivě stíhaných (VONS) založila 27. dubna 1978 skupina signatářů Charty 77. Jeho členové pomáhali postiženým právně a finančně podporovali jejich rodiny. Obraceli se na československé úřady a žádali je o nápravu. Zprávy o případech předávali do zahraničí, odkud se prostřednictvím západních rozhlasových stanic dostávaly zpět do Československa. VONS působil také po listopadu 1989, kdy se věnoval novelizaci trestního řádu, uklidňování bouří ve věznicích či přípravě amnestie a rehabilitačních zákonů. Snažil se bez úspěchu rovněž o očištění justice. Členové VONS se 3. července 1996 dohodli na přerušení činnosti na dobu neurčitou. Za svou činnost byla řada členů VONS různým způsobem postižena, nejznámější je soudní proces se šesti jeho členy v roce 1979, který je hlavním tématem této edice dokumentů. V této knize je publikováno celkem 130 archivních dokumentů, z nichž většina nebyla doposud publikována.

| Description in English | The Committee for the Defence of the Unjustly Prosecuted (Výbor na obranu nespravedlivě stíhaných – VONS) was established by a group of Charter 77 signatories on 27 April 1978. VONS members provided legal assistance to fellow-citizens facing prosecution and provided fi nancial support to their families. They turned to the Czechoslovak authorities, demanding redress, and sent reports on cases to individuals and institutions abroad, which were then relayed back to Czechoslovakia by Western radio stations. For their work a number of VONS members were persecuted by the régime in various ways. Th e best known is the trial of six of them in 1979 – Václav Benda (1946–1999), Otta (Otka) Bednářová (b. 1927), Jiří Dienstbier (b. 1937), Václav Havel (b. 1936), Dana Němcová (b. 1934), and Petr Uhl (b. 1941). That trial is the main topic of this edition of documents. Most of the 130 archive documents here had until now never been published.
