For various reasons, however, the existence of hybrids in this area has been largely overlooked. DNA analyses revealed a high proportion of unrecorded diversity, including four previously unknown interspecific hybrids. In spite of their sterility, some of these hybrids persist at their localities for a long time in the absence of the parental species.
