AnnotationThis study shows that matrix unification can be a useful tool for the LA–ICP-MS quantitative analysis of powdered materials, but it can also cause changes in the particle formation during the ablation process leading to fractionation. On the other hand the matrix unification did not lead to complex improvement of analytical results. In general, the choice of the matrix unifier (binder) must therefore be done very carefully depending on the sample to be analysed and the ablation conditions.
