AnnotationOvarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a serious complication of in vitro fertilisation therapy using hormonal stimulation of ovaries. Current diagnosis is not sufficient and could be significantly improved if a protein biomarker(s) could be identified in patient follicular fluid (HFF). In search for new potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker(s) of OHSS we have used a combination of immunoaffinity depletion, 2-D LC and 2-DE to obtain 2D protein profiles of HFF from OHSS positive and OHSS negative women. The protein maps were evaluated using software tools and protein spots or bands significantly increased or decreased in HFF of OHSS positive and OHSS negative women were identified using MS. In total, we identified 20 proteins and 3 of them were shared between two different 2D technologies. Most of the identified proteins belong to different functional groups including the complement cascade, transport, blood coagulation, acute phase response and inflammation.
