The first addresses the question of interaction between FDI and Research & Development (R&D) using firm-level data on Czech manufacturing firms from 1995 to 1998. The second essay provides an empirical study of the territorial distribution of foreign-owned manufacturing plants. The third essay examines how important agglomeration economies were for the location decision of foreign investors entering into the Czech manufacturing sector during the period 1994-2001. The fourth essay looks at the resulting degree of geographic concentration of the manufacturing industry.
