AnnotationIn Africa and Middle East monospecific genus Triaenops is revised in this study based on morphological and molecular genetic traits of geographically representative samples including type material. Proposed division of currently recognized T. persicus into three species corresponds with geographically delimited forms T. afer in Africa, and T. persicus s. str. and T. parvus sp. nov. in the Middle East. Considerable differences in morphology and phylogenetic position also support exemption of T. auritus and T. furculus from Madagascar, and T. pauliani from Seychelles to separate genus Paratriaenops gen. nov., and the genera Triaenops and Paratriaenops to separate tribe Triaenopini within the family Hipposideridae.
