AnnotationThe evolution of central and peripheral umbral dots (CUDs and PUDs) and penumbral grains (PGs) was traced in a time series of maps of temperature, Doppler velocities, and magnetic field vector in a sunspot. It was found that PGs and PUDs are of a similar physical nature. They appear in regions with a weaker and more horizontal magnetic field and reach the photosphere, while CUDs are formed in deeper layers.
