AnnotationA formation of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) on an Al2O3/Al support prepared by anodic oxidation of aluminum foil was studied in diluted aqueous solutions of Co, Mn, and/or Ni nitrates. The LDH deposition was carried out under hydrothermal conditions at 80 – 180 °C for time ranging from 8 to 168 hours. The LDH phase was formed after long-term deposition (3 – 7 days) at 120 – 160 °C and only a slight incorporation of Mn into the deposited LDHs was found. Ni cations when present in the solution were preferentially incorporated into the LDH phase; a homogeneous layer was formed, with single platy crystals oriented perpendicularly towards the support. After calcination at 500 °C, the products formed on Al2O3/Al support exhibited worse reducibility in comparison with mixed oxides obtained by thermal decomposition of coprecipitated LDHs.
