AnnotationCyclic plastic response of the Eurofer reduced activation ferritic-martensitic steel at room temperature was studied. Strain amplitude was kept constant during cycling. The softening curves in two representation were obtained. The fatigue life curve in NF = f(ea) representation and the cyclic stress-strain curve were determined. The main part of the study was focused on surface relief observation: determination of crack nucleation sites and kinetics of crack growth. The crack growth coefficient kg was measured, allowing the fatigue life predictions based on the kinetics of short crack growth. The fracture surfaces were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Nucleation sites, striation and other typical fatigue features were detected.
