Mücke se ve studii zaměřil na fenomén pojímání cizinců a cizích zemí z hist. perspektivy a to především v dobové perspektivě bipolárního světa rozděleného na soupeřící "kapitalistický" Západ a "socialistický" Východ. Na zákl. uzpůsobeného konceptu "rámců paměti", převzatého od fr. sociologa Maurice Halbwachse se autor zaměřil jednak na charakteristiku "rámců" paměti, ve kterých se představy utvářely, a dále na nejdůležitější "kontury" paměti. Konkrétně se jedná o paměť zdrojů informací, s jejichž pomocí si dotyční narátoři "neživé" obrazy cizinců a ciziny utvářely bez vlivu bezprostřední zkušenosti z návštěvy dané země nebo osobního kontaktu s cizincem. V tého souvislosti je také reflektována kontura znalosti a učení se cizím jazykům. V další části autor analyzuje kontury obrazu cizinců, se kterými se narátoři setkávají na čs. půdě. V poslední části studie se věnuje obrazu ciziny utvářeného na zákl. vlastních cest narátorů do zahraničí a je také poukázáno na kontury paměti emigrace. Description in English Author as historian analyses the impressions of "foreign" and "foreigners" in life-stories especially in regard to the bipolarity of a world structured by the competition between the "capitalist" West and "socialist" East. Using Maurice Halbwach´s concept of "frames of memory", the author focuses his attention both on the properties of these frames and thein most important contoures. He analyse the sources of information through which narrators formed stereotypical images of foreigners and foreign countries without ever having visited the countries in question or having had any personal contact with foreigners. In the second part of the essay, the author contrasts these stereotypes the memories and images of actual foreigners whom narrators met in Czechoslovakia and the image of foreign countries based on narrators´ personal experience of travelling abroad, including emigration.
