    AnnotationExcited-state dynamics of carbonyl carotenoids has been studied for a series of four carotenoids with different molecular structures. Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy revealed effects of carotenoid structure and polarity of environment on characteristics of two dark states, the S* state and the intramolecular charge-transfer state (ICT).
