AnnotationThe results obtained in the present study may be considered apparently as the first observations of Er3+ f-f absorption spectra in KTaO3 crystals. The impurity erbium ions enter crystals usually in the form of Er3+ and can substitute in KTaO3 crystals the K+ or Ta5+ regular lattice ions residing in a crystal field of cubic symmetry. The number of observed lines fits the theoretically possible number for f-f electronic transitions in Er3+ ions in the cubic crystal field. In the case of a differently charged substituted ion, this situation occurs only under nonlocal impurity charge compensation.
