AnnotationThe external egg morphology of the predatory mite Cheyletus malaccensis Oudemans 1903 was Studied. It was found that the eggs have two shape forms. The freshly laid egg is regularly ellipsoid (133 x 94 mu m), but its shape changes to ovoid (143 x 96 mu m) approximately in the middle of its development. The formation of the ovoid egg shape is connected with the appearance of a special microstructure, which perforates the egg surface on the top of the broader end of the egg. The duration of both egg forms depends on the temperature conditions. Morphological details of eggshells arc illustrated with scanning electron microscope (SEM) micrographs.
