AnnotationHigh irradiance during in vitro cultivation accelerated leaf development of photoautotrophically grown tobacco plants, and lead to some typical adaptations known in sun leaves of in vivo plants. However, relative abundance of chloroplasts in both palisade and spongy parenchyma cells considerably decreased during leaf development indicating that photoautrophic in vitro cultivation could be limiting for chloroplast formation and consequently for development of the photosynthetic apparatus
