Annotation	A characteristic initial-value problem is considered for linear functional-differential equation of hyperbolic type with discontinuous right hand side. A concept of Carathéodory solutions is used and, as a result, theorems on the Fredholm alternative and well-posedness of the problem atudied are established. Some existence results are given as well.
