AnnotationResults from earlier studies suggest that there are different ways to obtain a singer’s formant cluster. Differences between the origins of a singer’s and an actor’s formant cluster have not been investigated. This study aimed to estimate the possible vocal tract settings for the formation of a singer’s and an actor’s formant cluster. A 1 D model based optimization was used. An epilaryngeal narrowing with a widening of the back of the mouth cavity and a narrowing of the front part of it gave the best results for both cases. The singer’s formant seemed to differ from the actor’s formant by requiring an additional lengthening of the epilaryngeal part. The results are in line with earlier findings and hypotheses. This seems to suggest that a 1D model may be applied in estimating the effects of vocal training.
