AnnotationStudy addresses important conceptual issues as it clarifies the role of stem size, origin, age, and local competitive interactions and tree demography on the spatio-temporal variations in radial growth of Quercus mongolica in a young postlogging stand in South Korea. We combine several recent innovations in the modelling of stand development and plant interactions. The fitting individual growth curves with Richards model show that seed-established trees are able to grow longer exponentially and hence to achieve larger stem diameter, are significantly taller with greater stem volume and experience less competition than asymptotically growing sprout-established trees.
