AnnotationIn the study a description of two groups (smokers, non-smokers) was performed using pointwise correlation dimension (PD2) calculated from electrodermal activity (EDA) that is influenced by limbic modulation. Smokers reported significantly more psychopathological symptoms and limbic irritability in comparison to nonsmokers. Results indicated increased neural complexity in the resting state in smokers in comparison to nonsmokers. These results present first supporting evidence for the hypothesis that heightened limbic irritability and neuronal complexity may present an important factor in the etiology of smoking.
