AnnotationThis work describes the results of analogue modeling simulating lava dome growth using plaster of Paris and a hydraulic squeezer apparatus. The dome shape development, and internal flow structure and magnetic fabric pattern enabled to understand the growth dynamics of natural lava domes. Rheological properties of used analogue material well correspond with expected behavior of natural lavas with higher content of crystals (e.g. andesites and dacites). The analogue modeling apparatus consists of a hydraulic squeezer and a container from which the plaster is forcefully injected into a perspex box filled with sand. The growth of most of the model lava domes has shown at first symmetric growth, which was followed by asymmetric emplacement of distinct portions of the analogue material that had lobate shape in vertical cross-sections.
