    AnnotationThe larvae of most Lepidoptera secrete fibrous proteins from their labial glands, collectively known as silk. Silk is used to construct sheiters for the larvae and cocoons in which the larvae pupate. The water insoluble core of the silk filament is produced in the posterior gland section.
