AnnotationProgrammed cell death (apoptosis) constitutes an important mechanism in embryonic development. Apoptosis is suggested to play essential roles also in tooth development, including controlling of tooth size, shape and position in the jaw. This paper aims to review and discuss current knowledge of dental apoptosis as well as further research with respect to emerging molecular dentistry.
