AnnotationContinuous-wave and pulsed CO2 laser-induced and SF6-photosensitized pyrolysis of dimethyl selenium yields methane, ethene and ethane as three major gaseous products and affords chemical vapour deposition of a composite of elemental selenium and a polymer assigned from FTIR and XP spectra as poly(selenoformaldehyde). The mechanism of the pyrolysis is discussed in terms of radical paths and transient formation of selenoformaldehyde
