It was held in Nové Hrady, Czech republic, from May 28 - June 1, 2007 and attracted more than 120 participants from 24 countries. Methods for assaying chlorophyll fluorescence were introduced into aquatic science several decades ago once the main principles had been developed and tested in mainstream photosynthesis research. A central goal for studies using these methods within aquatic systems was originally (and still is) to examine and explain environmental controls on the photosynthesis, growth and community structure of phytoplankton and other chlorophyll-containing organisms in aquatic systems. Therefore, it is perhaps not surprising that chlorophyll fluorescence has become established as an independent method for assessing algal physiology in the aquatic environment, although only relatively recently Workplace Institute of Microbiology Contact Eliška Spurná, eliska.spurna@biomed.cas.cz, Tel.: 241 062 231 Year of Publishing 2008
