Language eng - English Country CZ - Czech Republic Keywords rabbits ; selenium ; meat Subject RIV GH - Livestock Nutrition CEZ AV0Z50450515 - UZFG-Y (2005-2011) Annotation In a diet of rabbits the selenium (Se) concentration was increased from 0.12 mg/kg to 0.50 mg/kg by means of addition of Se-enriched yeast. No effect of Se supplement on growth and feed efficiency was observed. Loin and hindleg meat, liver and hair of control rabbits contained 93, 98, 521 and 267 µg Se/kg, resp. Corresponding Se concentrations in treated rabbits were 400, 389, 1414 and 914 µg/kg. The activity of glutathion peroxidase and oxidative stability of meat were not influenced. Thus, the enrichment of meat with Se is the main benefit of Se supplementation of rabbit diets.
