    AnnotationThe nature of the EUV filaments, seen as the large dark structures on the Sun in the EUV coronal lines with wavelengths between 504 and 912 Angstroms, can be explained by two processes: by absorption by the hydrogen Lyman continuum and by volume blocking. In this work we compare relative contributions of this two processes to line intensity depressions in the darkest part of the EUV filament (the H alpha filament) and in its EUV extension using non-LTE 1D-slab model and observations of the profiles of Lyman lines made by SOHO/SUMER and of the H alpha lines made by THEMIS/MSDP.
