AnnotationIn this paper we have studied chromosome structure, organization of repeated sequences in cell nucleus and their divergence among several members of Nicotiana species, section Alatae. While the plastid genome showed little sequence divergence, there was substantial chromosomal repatterning including altered chromosome numbers, structure and distribution of satellite repeats and evolution of species-specific intergenic spacers of 35S rDNA.
